Brookwood Presbyterian Church
March 2010
From the Pastor’s Corner:
As the deer pants for streams of water,
so my soul pant for you, O God.
My soul thirsts for God, for the living God.
When can I go and meet with God?
Lent is here, saints. Now is the time to have already gotten our minds around the opportunity set before us to seek God diligently this Lenten Season. It is not too late. Lent has just begun. You can start right now and satisfy your desire to seek after God. And in your search, you will be satisfied. Our God is faithful.
You can “do Lent” on your own … which is fine ... but, I happen to think Lent is better together. Brookwood has lots of opportunities for doing Lent together:
Lenten Discipline Saturday Agape 5:00 pm
Wednesday Lenten Worship at 12:00 pm Sunday School and Worship at 9:30 / 10:30 am
Wednesday Lenten Worship at 6:30 pm Pastor Jim’s Devotional, Behold the Man!
Wednesday Bible Study at 7:05 pm
Adding some of these to your busy schedule will round out your Lenten experience this year and assuredly bring more joy to your life.
Psalm 42:4
These things I remember
as I pour out my soul:
how I used to go with the multitude,
leading the procession to the house of God,
with shouts of joy and thanksgiving
among the festive throng.
The Psalmist is recalling past Worship experiences - these experiences were very meaningful to him and he remembers them clearly. These times were filled with many people and much rejoicing … it was a time of clarity and festive Worship, rejoicing and thanksgiving. He longs to return to those days ... hmmm … there are many reasons for Lent - one of them is the idea of “returning”. Returning to God, drawing close again to God, so we may “pour out your soul”, “go with the multitude”, and experience the “shouts of joy and thanksgiving” again, and be with the “festive throng” again here at Brookwood.
That is why Lent is better together. Lent will be WAY better when we see you this Lenten Season. Now is a good time to return to the house of God: even if you have never left, or if you have been away for a while. You are welcome here.
God bless you … See you soon! Pastor Jim

Easter is Coming!
With your help, the Education Ministry Unit is organizing the Easter Egg Hunt for the children. It will be held before the Agape meal on Saturday, March 27th at 4:30 pm. We are inviting Brookwood and the surrounding community to join us. We will provide bags for the eggs. Weather permitting, we will have it outside. We are asking for donations of wrapped candy, small toys and plastic eggs. There will be a box outside the office for your donations. BCLC
Brookwood Community Learning Center, more fondly known as BCLC, started at Brookwood Presbyterian Church in January, 2004 and continues today as a successful mission outreach of our church.
BCLC opened its doors with 24 students and today has 59 students. We now serve students in grades 4 - 12. BCLC offers to its students an afternoon enrichment program, breakfast and lunch, speech therapy, counseling and specialized tutoring programs.
YOU’VE DONE IT AGAIN!
Thank you so much for your help with the Youth Super Bowl Sub sale! The youth sold 212 subs and their profit was $703.61! WOW!!!!! All of this money will go towards youth activities, materials for meetings and future mission trips. You are amazing and it means a lot to our youth to have the support of Brookwood behind them!
Thanks again!

Recycling computer ink cartridges can make a huge difference!! Did you know? It takes a gallon of oil to make a new laser cartridge? In North America. Over 350 million cartridges are thrown out each year. It can take as long as 450 years for a cartridge to decompose in a landfill. Don't throw away your empty cartridges. Recycle them at Brookwood and help us save $$ on office supplies. You can drop them off in the church office, it's that easy!!! We can turn in 20 cartridges a month, that adds up to $720 for the year in savings. Don't forget your Kroger Community Rewards too!!!

The Lord Loves a Cheerful Giver
As we all struggle through the harsh winter months, let us be mindful of those who have so little and how much more difficult it must be for them. We can each help, even in a small way, by donating an item or two of food to our own food pantry. This will enable us to minister to our neighbors and make their paths a bit smoother. Of course, monetary donations are always welcome. The food pantry staff can do the shopping. We appreciate all contributions---no donation is too small! Food items can be placed in the barrel in the hallway outside the food pantry. Monetary donations should be marked “Food Pantry”.
Thank you for all you do!
